Hiring a car can provide you with both transport to and from Terminal 5, and a means of getting around if you’re on holiday in the UK. While the UK has an effective public transport system in the cities, if you want to explore beyond them it’s advisable to hire a car to get around. Several car hire firms operate from Terminal 5, and there is a dedicated car rental zone in arrivals where the rental companies have their desks. If you’re driving to or from Terminal 5, you’ll find the terminal and exits from it well signposted. The terminal is reached via the airport’s Western Perimeter Road. The nearest motorway junctions are M4 junction 4b, and M25 junction 14.
Car Hire Companies
Avis are the ‘official partner’ of BA at Terminal 5, so if you’re hiring a car with them, you’ll earn BA miles with your booking. You can pre-book cars online with Avis, and pick them up at the airport, or you can do so when you arrive. In the car rental zone, touch-screens and phone facilities are available for you to book, or it’s also possible to get a courtesy bus directly to the Avis rental centre from Terminal 5, where the company promises there will always be cars waiting for hire.
National Car Rental offers a service for BA Executive Club members called ‘T5 touchdown’. This is a fast rental service aimed at business class passengers, and as with Avis, those who use it will gain BA miles with their booking. Cars booked with National Car Rental are available directly outside the terminal from a company agent, avoiding travel to a rental centre.
Budget car hire offers a service to suit all, with a range of cars at affordable rates. They run shuttle buses to their outlet ten minutes from the terminal.
