Heathrow Airport is located on the far western edge of London, in the borough of Hillingdon. It is just within the M25. Terminal 5 covers 260 acres on the western edge of the airport, close to Junction 14 of the M25.
Near the airport are West Drayton and Hayes to the north, Southall and Hounslow to the east, Twickenham and Staines to the south, and Wraysbury and Slough to the west. The area around the airport is fairly diverse, with London suburbs such as Southall having a much more urban feel than the Surrey towns and beginnings of countryside that lie south and west of the airport. The area is also home to some of London’s wealthiest suburbs in the borough of Richmond.
The River Thames runs not far from the airport through Windsor, Staines and Egham. The area is also home to several large reservoirs that help supply London’s water. The largest green space in London, Richmond Park, is close to the airport. This 1000 hectare royal park is home to 650 deer. Also nearby are the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, one of the world’s leading botanic gardens, and the historic Hampton Court Palace.
